Restaurant | Wigan | England | United Kingdom

Traditional British cuisine Wigan

The "Primrose Farm - Dining & Carvery" in Wigan, England, is an inviting restaurant known for its warm atmosphere and traditional British cuisine. It is part of the Farmhouse Inns chain, which is famous for its generous portions and family-friendly locations, and is conveniently located near Wigan's town center. The restaurant combines the charm of a classic pub with modern amenities, offering a cozy environment ideal for both spontaneous visits and planned family meals. The interior is warm and welcoming, featuring wooden tones and a relaxed ambiance, complemented by a beer garden that provides a pleasant option on nice days. Notably, there is an indoor play area for children, allowing parents to enjoy a leisurely meal while the little ones are entertained.

Family-friendly restaurant in Wigan

Culinarily, the carvery is the centerpiece of the "Primrose Farm." Here, meats such as juicy beef, tender turkey, and spicy ham are slow-cooked for 14 hours before being freshly carved in front of the guests. The "Yorkshire Puddings," which are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, are particularly popular and considered the perfect accompaniment to the roast. Additionally, there are "ruffled" roast potatoes, hand-prepared for an especially crispy texture, as well as a selection of fresh, seasonal vegetables and rich gravy. Aside from the carvery, the restaurant also offers other dishes, like the "British Beef & Ale Pie," a hearty meal with slow-cooked beef and a flavorful ale sauce, praised for its intense taste. For a sweet conclusion, the dessert station tempts with homemade cakes, including the "Sticky Toffee Pudding," a warm, sweet pastry with a rich toffee sauce that is often described as a highlight.

Coziness and good food

The drink menu is diverse, featuring everything from traditional ales to freshly tapped beer and soft drinks. The bar serves as a central meeting point where guests can feel comfortable even without a meal, whether for a quick drink or a longer stay. The "Primrose Farm" places great importance on versatility: there are vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a kids' menu to ensure that all guests find something suitable. The option to order takeout, including the popular carvery, is appreciated by many, particularly those who want to enjoy the experience at home.

Saturday night meal with the grandchildren. Food came quickly and was nice and hot. Kids got Sundaes which they really enjoyed but should have got one between them. Staff are always friendly and can’t do enough for you especially the Manager Kelly; she can never do enough for you.

We came in today around 5.30pm and we was served by Kelly she was so happy and friendly. We was looking at the menu and Kelly recommended the chip shop meal which was very nice and tasty. We come here quite regularly and Kelly is always smiling and happy which makes us feel so comfortable when at Primrose. The food was so good and the cake away was delicious. We will definitely be back and hope to see Kelly when we're next in for food. Thank you Kelly 5 star service with a smile.

Party of six. Food average. Carvery was abysmal. Roast beef way overcooked and dry. Roast potatoes cold and dry, veg terrible and funny tasting, but gravy excellent. Nice friendly staff
